Lip Lift Overview
A Lip Lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the lips by shortening the space between the nose and the upper lip, known as the philtrum. This treatment lifts the position of the upper lip, giving it a more pronounced and youthful look. The procedure typically involves removing a small strip of skin under the nose, which enhances the cupid’s bow—the double curve of the upper lip—and helps expose more of the pink lip tissue. The main advantage of a Lip Lift is that it offers a permanent solution to achieve fuller, more defined lips without the need for repeated filler injections. This can be particularly appealing for those seeking a more lasting solution to thinning lips that often occur with aging. A Lip Lift also helps to balance facial features and can make the lips appear more vibrant and attractive.
Lip Lift Results
The results of a Lip Lift treatment are typically noticeable immediately, with the upper lip appearing more elevated and defined. This surgical procedure enhances the lip’s shape by increasing the prominence of the cupid’s bow and revealing more of the lip’s pink tissue, creating a fuller appearance. Over time, as the healing process completes, the lips look more naturally voluminous and youthful. The subtle lift can significantly rejuvenate the facial aesthetics, making the smile more expressive and attractive. Additionally, the results are permanent, providing a long-lasting solution without the need for frequent touch-ups, unlike temporary lip fillers. The small scar left under the nose is discreet and tends to fade considerably, becoming less noticeable.
Duration of the treatment
The Lip Lift treatment is a quick surgical procedure that typically takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete. It is performed under local anesthesia, which makes it relatively comfortable and safe for patients. The duration of the surgery can vary slightly depending on the specific techniques used and the individual patient’s needs. Despite being a surgical procedure, the recovery time for a Lip Lift is relatively short. Most patients can resume their normal activities within about a week, although they may need to avoid strenuous activities for a slightly longer period to ensure optimal healing. The quick process and minimal downtime make the Lip Lift an appealing option for those looking to enhance their lip aesthetics without a significant interruption to their daily life.
Who is best suited for Lip Lift
A Lip Lift is best suited for individuals who are looking to permanently enhance the appearance of their lips, particularly those who feel their upper lip is too thin or that the space between their nose and upper lip is too long. This procedure is ideal for people who desire a more pronounced cupid’s bow and a fuller, more youthful look of the lips. It is especially beneficial for older adults who have experienced natural sagging and lengthening of the upper lip area due to aging. Candidates should be in good health, non-smokers, or willing to quit smoking, as smoking can affect the healing process. A Lip Lift is also a good option for those who are looking for a permanent alternative to repeated filler injections, offering a one-time solution with lasting results.
Aftercare
Keep the area clean and avoid eating hard or spicy foods for a few days. Refrain from excessive lip movements, such as wide smiling or talking for extended periods, during the first week of recovery. Mild swelling and bruising are common but should subside within 1-2 weeks. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks, and follow your surgeon’s instructions for caring for any stitches. Stick to soft foods and follow a liquid diet for the first 24-48 hours to avoid strain on the area.

Bullhorn Lip Lift
A Bullhorn Lip Lift (also referred to as a Central Lip Lift) shortens the space between the base of the nose and the upper lip, making the lips appear fuller and more pronounced. The surgeon makes incisions under the nostrils, in the shape of a bull’s horn. The scars are carefully placed within the skin’s natural folds and creases so that they are discrete. Skin is removed from just below the margin between the nose and the lip. This exposes more of the red part of the lip and makes the shape of the mouth more appealing.
Valentine Lip Lift
A Valentine Lip Lift (also referred to as a Corner Lip Lift) is designed to turn up or lift the corners of a drooping mouth. Depending on your mouth and your anatomy, this may be carried out at the same time as a Bullhorn or Central Lip Lift to prevent the formation of an excessively downturned mouth.
Gullwing Lip Lift
The Gullwing lip lift (also referred to as a vermilion lip advancement) augments the lip directly at the border of the mouth (the line between the red part of the upper lip and the skin-coloured area above it). Unlike a Bullhorn or Central Lip Lift, there is no scar underneath the nose. Scars will be concealed within the pigmented portion of the lips.
